Christoph Albert

Christoph Albert Handtmann, bell founder and master mechanic, starts a brass foundry in the historic "Bachmühle" mill on Ehingertorplatz Biberach, Germany to make church bells ring for the region. The plot has an area of approx. 1,200 m².

The company expands into food and agriculture with its design and production of armatures for fruit brand distilleries, brew houses and beer storage tanks.

Telephone Invented

Handtmann is founded just 3 years before the telephone is invented. The first ever telephone call is made on 10th March 1876.

Introducing the Handtmann Sons

After the death of Christoph Albert Handtmann in 1918, sons Karl Albert Handtmann (1874-1951), master brass founder, and Adolf Karl Handtmann (1884-1953), salesman, become partners in the company.

Adolf Karl Handtmann buys machines and modernises the foundry. In addition to the company's traditional business with armatures for breweries and distilleries, he starts supplying fitters with taps and annealed cast iron fittings for wholesale.

Moving location

Handtmann moves to Rißraße/Fabrikstraße, Biberach.

A pivotal year in the automotive industry for Ford, who sold over one million units of the new Ford Model T in the first half of 1929 alone.

New Ownership

Adolf Karl Handtmann becomes sole owner of the Albert Handtmann company. In 1947 he employs 8 workers.

1953

A Third Generation Handtmann Partner

Adolf Handtmann’s son, Arthur Handtmann, enters the company as a third-generation partner and succeeds his father as sole proprietor of the Handtmann family company in subsequent years.

The company diversifies in the processing of aluminium sand casting.

Coronation of Elizabeth II

The coronation of Elizabeth II takes place at Westminster Abbey in London. Elizabeth II acceded to the throne aged 25.

Handtmann Maschinenfabrik is founded

The family extends its food and agricultural involvement with the founding on Handtmann Maschinenfabrik, the Handtmann Food Machinery division.

By 1961, a series of portioning and linking machines have been created – the Handtmann automatic filling machines in the FA 40 and FA 70 performance versions, as well as six piston filler types, F20 to F70.

The breakthrough comes in 1962. At the IFFA in Munich, Handtmann Maschinenfabrik surprises the experts and sells 152 of its innovative automatic filling machines to customers throughout Europe. 80 people are employed.

Revolutionary Industry Machinery

The first vane cell technology is patented and the first vacuum filling machine is introduced, a system that will soon become a reference point in the sector industry.

England Win the World Cup

England win the 1966 FIFA World Cup Final at Wembley Stadium against Germany.

Production Moves to Birkenallee

Founded in the state of Baden-Württemberg and historically committed to the Biberach region, Hantmann moves to a new location on what is today known as Arthur-Handtmann-Straße. In 1968, 377 people are employed with sales of DM 18 million.

Thomas Handtmann joins the Board of Directors

Thomas Handtmann, Dipl.-Ing. ETH, the fourth generation of the family, joins the Handtmann Group. The company has 630 employees.

Introducing Channel 4

Channel 4 television begins broadcasting.

Handtmann Ltd is Founded in England

Handtmann becomes an international company with the first foreign subsidiary of Handtmann Maschinenfabrik founded for the sale of meat processing machines - Handtmann Ltd is born in England.

This is followed by additional sales companies in the USA (1990), Italy (1991), Canada (1991), France (1997), Brazil (2000), China (2006), Russia (2014) and Mexico (2015), Spain (2020) and Thailand and Columbia (2021).

Hanging and Linking Systems

Handtmann introduces automated hanging and linking systems.

125th Anniversary

Handtmann celebrates its 125th anniversary. 1,500 people are employed at this time.

Arthur Handtmann steps down as the Managing Director of all companies and becomes Chairman of the newly established Advisory Board. He hands over the leadership to his son Thomas Handtmann who takes on the management of the Group of Companies in his place.

Europeans agree on a single currency – the Euro, which was introduced on 01/01/1999.

Handtmann Maschinenfabrik celebrates its 50th anniversary. Representatives from politics, business, the dealers, agencies and of course customers and employees, attend the celebrations.

Facebook Launches

Facebook, the social networking giant is launched by Mark Zuckerberg.

Introducing the HVF series

2008 Handtmann introduces the HVF series of complete high vacuum machines to the market, with its integrated vacuum management system (IVM), which allows it to flexibly manage even products, which were previously exceedingly difficult to portion.

iPhone App Store Comes to Life

The iPhone App store is launched with 500 available apps; fast-forward to 2022 and this number now tops 3 million apps.

From 2008, all iPhones come with the App store pre-loaded onto the device.

Handtmann Zittau is Born

Handtmann filling and portioning machines are completely dismantled and re-engineered to industrial standards in a new, state-of-the-art assembly plant in Zittau, eastern Germany.

Handtmann is therefore now able to offer its legendary Handtmann quality to international customers who wish to purchase second-hand machines.

Arthur Handtmann, President of the Advisory Board of the Handtmann Group of Companies, passes away at the age of 91 on 14th April 2018.

The Handtmann Group of Companies acquires Inotec, with its locations in Reutlingen, Herzebrock-Clarholz, Hluk (Czech Republic) and Saverne.

Coronavirus Pandemic

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic storms the world with international lockdowns bringing the world to a halt.

For Handtmann Ltd however, with keyworker status, it was business as usual, and the business successfully adapted to navigate its way through the pandemic.

Queen Elizabeth II Dies at the Age of 96.

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, dies peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday 8th September 2022 aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

The throne passes immediately to the Queen's son Charles, the heir and former Prince of Wales, who becomes the new monarch. He will be known as King Charles III.
